The place
If you are looking for a campground to explore the North Country National Scenic Trail or a rustic fishing-getaway with a family atmosphere, try the Beaver Lake Recreation Area 15 miles west of Mellen, Wis. This campground is located on a 35-acre trout, panfish and largemouth bass. There are 10 campsites. Campsites include a parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad. A spur trail connects the campground to the North Country National Scenic Trail, one of the most popular trail systems in the area, that includes hiking and snowshoeing during the winter months. There is no day use or long term parking for visitors entering the North Country National Scenic Trail within the campground. The Beaver Lake Recreation Area is near popular local site-seeing spots St. Peter's Dome and Morgan Falls. It's a short hike or drive from the Marengo Semi-primitive Non-motorized area. In addition, there are mountain bike opportunities on the CAMBA trail system and Rock Lake National Recreation Trail. So, if you like to camp, boat, fish, and hike, then the Beaver Lake recreation area is the place for you, located just 15 minutes northwest of Mellen. Don't forget your canine friends. Beaver Lake is one of our dog friendly Recreation Areas. Dogs must be well behaved and leashed at all times.

Recreation.gov default: most campsites can be booked six months prior to arrival date. Most campgrounds go on sale at 7am PT / 8am MT / 10am ET, but not always; check the facility Seasons and Fees tab. Some locations also offer shorter supplemental booking windows.
