Fall River Dam is located on Fall River, a tributary of the Verdigris River, in Greenwood County, Kansas. Opportunities for outdoor family fun and recreation include swimming, boating, water skiing, camping, picnicking and sightseeing. Keep reading

Recreation

Fall River and Lake provide visitors with endless boating, water skiing, jet skiing and swimming opportunities. Anglers will find white bass, bluegill, crappie, green sunfish and channel catfish, to be plentiful. For birdwatchers and nature lovers, there is an 8,000 acre public wildlife area, where prairie chickens, waterfowl of all kinds, rabbits, wild turkeys, white tail deer, doves and quail are commonly seen.

Facilities

This campground straddles Fall River below the spillway. There are 13 rentable sites. 2 sites with 50 amp and water and 6 sites with 30 amp and water. There are 5 sites with water only. Additional amenities include vault toilets, drinking water, and a playground.

Natural Features

Rolling prairies and tree-dotted valleys sheltered by limestone-capped ridges surround Fall Lake. The lake is about a mile wide at the damsite and stretches up the picturesque Fall River for 15 miles. This scenic area has a wealth of native wildlife and vegetation.

Nearby Attractions

Fall River State Park is nearby, offering great fishing and birding along the river. Canoeing is also a popular activity in the park.

What the agency tells you

Rule

Damsite West and Damsite East are separated by a river bridge with limited clearance and weight limits; larger vehicles and trailers may need to use either the west or east entrance to the park to avoid this bridge

A weekend here means Friday and Saturday night, booked once. Optional charges (an extra vehicle, a second tent, a dump-station fee) are listed separately and aren’t in this total.

Who keeps the booking fee

The agency’s own policy text says the reservation fee and the cancellation processing fee are “retained by the reservation service contractor”, and that a campground concessionaire will decline to refund them because “they did not receive these fees”. Recreation.gov is run under contract by Booz Allen Hamilton. What share of your booking fee the contractor keeps isn’t published in any federal dataset we can read, so we print no number for it. The price is derived by CAMPANAC, not published per site: the per-night rate this campground publishes for each site’s own site type. 33 of the 33 sites listed carry one, and a site whose type has no published rate sits out of the price rather than being called free.

How we know

every fact on this page, and where it came from
Right now: recreation.gov is offering sites on 14 of the next 14 nights, which isn’t something a closed campground does.
Cell signal: the Army Corps’s own campground description, read as text by CAMPANAC. None of this is a measurement. It’s what the land manager published about the place, and phones, carriers and weather all disagree with each other; treat it as a warning, not a promise.
Nearest place of any size: Fall River, KS, 3.1 mi NW. Straight line.
