In the agency’s own words
Jackrabbit Mountain Campground offers scenic lakeside camping in the beautiful Nantahala National Forest of southwestern North Carolina. Campers can breathe the fresh air of the forest while enjoying numerous recreation activities, including hiking, picnicking, mountain biking, fishing and water sports at Jackrabbit Recreation Area. The campground contains three seperate camping loops; Loops A is open May - September, and Loop B and C is open May - October. Keep reading
Recreation
Lake Chatuge has more than 130 miles of shoreline and plenty of water for recreation. Popular water activities include boating, jet skiing, swimming and fishing. Beach access fee is not included in camping reservation fee and will require on-site payment at fee collection station. Visitors who wish to stay on dry land can explore hiking, biking and shoreline fishing. Jackrabbit Mountain Recreation Area boasts several hiking trails, and the campground has paved roads for an easy afternoon of bicycling. Mountain bikers can get their wheels dusty on approximately 14 miles of bike-friendly trails.
Facilities
This large facility has three loops of well-kept campsites, some of which lie on the water's edge. Families can relax at the swimming beach (May - September), while anglers and boaters can use the boat ramp to access the water. The facility is also equipped with showers, flush toilets and picnic shelters.
Natural Features
The campground is located on a peninsula on Lake Chatuge, a dammed lake on the Hiawassee River. The site sits in a mixed deciduous and pine forest at an elevation of 1,860 feet.
Nearby Attractions
Local attractions include the Fires Creek recreation area and the Georgia Mountain State Fair, which occurs in late July each year.

What the agency tells you
Host at Jackrabbit Mountain Campground is unable to switch sites.
Anyone parking at the beach area must pay the daily fee of $5.00 including registered campers at Jack Rabbit Mountain Campground (This is for per vehicle fee).
Pets are not allowed at the beach, picnic area, swimming area or in the parking lot.

Pets are allowed in the campground, but must be kept on a leash at all times.
Campsites identified as RV sites do not have tent pads.
Discount pass holders can only reserve one site at a time with their discount pass number.
IMPORTANT: Check-out Time is at 1200 noon, Check-in Time is at 4pm. If you do not vacate your site by 12 o'clock noon you will be ticketed. These times insure that everyone is off the site and it gives staff time to get it ready for the next reservation.
All sites (Loop A, Loop B, and Loop C) must be reserved through recreation.gov. There are no first come first serve sites available. If a host is on site, it is recommended that campers check in with host before occupying the site. Please have your reservation receipt with you to show campground staff when asked for validation. Reservations can be made up to the day of arrival.

Who keeps the booking fee
The agency’s own policy text says the reservation fee and the cancellation processing fee are “retained by the reservation service contractor”, and that a campground concessionaire will decline to refund them because “they did not receive these fees”. Recreation.gov is run under contract by Booz Allen Hamilton. What share of your booking fee the contractor keeps isn’t published in any federal dataset we can read, so we print no number for it.
