In the agency’s own words

Journey to southeastern Oklahoma for a picturesque getaway at Sardis Lake, where Potato Hills Central Campground offers fresh-air campsites shaded by blackjack oak, post oak and pines. Keep reading

Recreation

The lake is a popular fishing destination, with some of Oklahoma's largest species of prize bass. Catfish, walleye and crappie also reside in the lake. Other water sports include jet skiing, swimming and canoeing; hiking is also a popular pastime.

Facilities

All sites come with electric hookups. Young kids will enjoy the playground and everyone can make use of the accessible fishing dock. A hiking trail is reachable from the campground, and hot showers are a welcoming amenity at the end of an eventful day.

Natural Features

The waters of Sardis Lake are sourced from Jackfork Creek, a tributary of the Kiamichi River. Surrounding terrain extends out into the rolling foothills of the Ouachita Mountains.

Nearby Attractions

More than 8,000 acres of public land around Sardis lake is available for wildlife watching and hunting. Additional camping is also available at Potato Hills South Campground.

Who keeps the booking fee

The agency’s own policy text says the reservation fee and the cancellation processing fee are “retained by the reservation service contractor”, and that a campground concessionaire will decline to refund them because “they did not receive these fees”. Recreation.gov is run under contract by Booz Allen Hamilton. What share of your booking fee the contractor keeps isn’t published in any federal dataset we can read, so we print no number for it. How we know

every fact on this page, and where it came from
Right now: recreation.gov is offering sites on 30 of the next 30 nights, which isn’t something a closed campground does.
Cell signal: the Army Corps’s own campground description, read as text by CAMPANAC. None of this is a measurement. It’s what the land manager published about the place, and phones, carriers and weather all disagree with each other; treat it as a warning, not a promise.
Nearest place of any size: Clayton, OK, 2.1 mi NNE. Straight line.
